Its golden beaches, mild weather and delicious Mediterranean cuisine is what attract legions of visitors to  Portugal every year.  If you haven't been before you might wonder which resort is best for Algarve family holidays. To save you time we have put together this short guide to help you find a family holiday resort that suits you.

Alvor

If you like resorts with a village feel then you will love Alvor. It has a lovely harbour where fishermen deliver their daily catch to the local restaurants and a long sandy beach which is perfect for sand castle building. It even has its own lagoon and river. It is one of the most charming resorts in the Algarve and the warm waters are ideal for water babies of all ages.

There are a few lovely hotels on this side of the Algarve:

Luxury

The five star Pestana Alvor Park Hotel  offers great value for money. It is minutes from the beach and all the luxurious apartments have air conditioning, an equipped kitchen and even a washing machine. There are a selection of pools both inside and out. For smaller children, there is a paddling pool and for when you want to kick back and relax there is a jacuzzi, a sauna, a Turkish bath and a steam room. The views are best at the top of the hotel but all rooms have a great view. It is also close to the local restaurants or you can eat at their lovely in house restaurant if you would prefer.  For a little bit of luxury, it is just the ticket. Prices start at just £14 per night and kids go free if you book with On The Beach.

It is a city now so is much busier than Alvor but there is plenty to do for all ages. There are lots of hotels across the resort but these are our top picks:
